Used Mercedes 310

The Mercedes-Benz 310 Sprinter belongs to a line vehicles designed primarily for business, although conversions for private use are available. It is manufactured by Daimler AG in Germany and Argentina and is sold all over the world. Models include a passenger van, cargo van, a minibus, and a conversion van. In America, Sprinters are sold as a Freightliner and as a Dodge. The first generation 310 Sprinters was introduced in Europe back in 1995 as replacement of the renowned but aging Mercedes-Benz T1 van. The Sprinter or the Freightliner, as it was called, even then hit American shores in 2001. It was offered with Mercedes’ 5-cylinder turbocharged 2.7-liter diesel. Presently, 310 Sprinters are available in 4- and 6-cylinder diesel, 6-cylinder petrol, or LPG units in Asia, Europe, South America, and Australia. At present, it is offered with the 4- or the 6-cylinder diesel, the 6-cylinder gasoline, or the LPI engine all over Europe, Australia, Asia, and even in South America. Going up, in the North America, the engines offered were primarily the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo diesel engines and the 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engines. Construction of the body shell was a joint venture between the Daimler AG and Volkswagen. In 2003, the North American market got a glimpse of a 310 Sprinter produced by the Daimler-Chrysler partnership. This Sprinter offered a tall roof and more fuel-efficient model than the venerable Dodge Ram whose design dated way back into the 1970s. In other parts of the world, the principal competitors of the used Mercedes 310 Sprinter were the Fiat Ducato and the Ford Transit. The 310 has sold more than 1.3 million units since its introduction. Over the years, the market of the Sprinter is becoming increasingly varied. Many companies are replacing their wide-bodied vans with Sprinters equipped with tall right doors and side facing seats as shuttle buses for employees. Sprinter passenger vans are also getting brisk sales from individuals and church uses. Most 310 Sprinters find service as supply and delivery vans. A Sprinter van can haul as much as 3000 lbs of cargo, giving trucking companies the flexibility they need to attract more customers. FedEx and DHL are some of companies that have found the operation of a fleet of Sprinters more economical than the operation of big trucks. In addition to this advantage that the car offers to companies, drivers appreciate them as well since even six footers can be comfortable in it. Other market segments that welcome the 310 sprinter with open arms are the mini-motor homes and conversion van markets. Since its introduction, Daimler Benz has sold more than 1.3 million units of the 310 Sprinter. The Mercedes-Benz 310 Sprinter was awarded the 2007 Van of the Year by Light Truck Magazine and Professional Van.
